Lost land and the myth of Kumari Kandam
Authors
Dr. T Kala Rani
Abstract
Kumari Kandam is a mythical lost continent believed to have been located south of present-day India in the Indian Ocean. This landmass is often associated with the ancient Tamil civilization and is said to have been submerged due to a catastrophic event. The concept of Kumari Kandam has been a part of Tamil literature and culture for centuries, and it is often linked to the idea of Lemuria, a hypothetical lost continent proposed in the 19th century to explain geological similarities between Africa, India, and Madagascar.
