Abstract
Tribal development administration in India remains
a vital aspect of democratic governance and the pursuit of social justice. Representing
approximately 8.6% of the country's population, the Scheduled Tribes are among
India's earliest inhabitants. Their way of life, traditions, and social systems
embody a profound bond with nature and a culture of collective living. Yet, factors
such as colonial exploitation, geographic isolation, and structural
inequalities have historically contributed to their marginalization. Since gaining
independence, the Indian government has implemented various constitutional measures,
welfare initiatives, and administrative reforms to address tribal welfare. This
discussion delves into the evolution of tribal development administration in India,
examines the prominent policies and institutions influencing this domain, evaluates
its achievements and challenges, and proposes strategies to ensure inclusive
and sustainable development for tribal communities.
