Abstract
The study sought to
examine the relationship between flexible work arrangements, resource
allocation, and the job performance of Business Education lecturers in public
universities located in South-South Nigeria. To achieve this objective, the
study was guided by two research questions and two null hypotheses. A
correlational survey research design was adopted as the methodological
framework. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire administered
to a census of 123 Business Education lecturers, all of whom constituted the
study population. The data obtained were analyzed using the Pearson
Product-Moment Correlation (PPMC) statistical technique to test the hypotheses
at the 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed a strong positive
relationship between flexible work arrangements and lecturers' effectiveness in
course design. Similarly, the results indicated a strong positive relationship
between resource allocation and lecturers' involvement in curriculum
development. Based on these findings, the study concluded that both flexible
work arrangements and adequate resource allocation significantly contribute to
enhancing the job performance of Business Education lecturers in public
universities. Consequently, it was recommended that government agencies and
regulatory authorities, particularly the National Universities Commission
(NUC), should provide increased financial support for Business Education
programmes and formulate policies that promote flexible work practices within
universities. In addition, university management should actively engage
Business Education lecturers in curriculum development processes, encourage
their participation in departmental deliberations and decision-making, involve
them in budgeting and resource allocation activities, and strengthen shared
governance mechanisms across faculties and departments to improve institutional
effectiveness.
