Abstract
This research ariticle examines the issue of internet addiction among
higher secondary school students, focusing on its prevalence and
characteristics in the North 24 Parganas and Kolkata districts of West Bengal.
The descriptive study involved a sample of 300 students from various private
and government higher secondary schools across these districts. Statistical
tools were employed to analyze the data, and the results will be presented
using graphs and pie charts for clarity. Previous studies, such as Mafe and
Blass (2006), found that typical internet-dependent users are often young (17
to 24 years old), while Suhail and Bargees (2006) noted the positive influence
of internet use on education. This study seeks to assess the level of internet
addiction among higher secondary students in the given regions.
